Funding Opportunity Page
Below is a list of opportunities that you can apply for. Some do have prerequisites so please check with Head Office and if you need any help with applications please reach out.
You will massively improve your chances of success with all of these funds if you are already running community sessions. Some will categorically refuse you if you are not. HAF is becoming more and more strict on this and some funds like Short Breaks in some LA’s will not entertain applications from non-community providers. So before you do anything, get your sessions running.
We would recommend doing them in the order that they are written here :
First Step - apply for your CIC
Contact Dan in your support group to obtain a template. This usually takes around 48-72 hours.
Obtain Local Business Support (LEP)
If you do not do anything else you MUST do this task, it is FREE and if you don’t you are doing yourself a huge disservice.
This is in your locality and each LEP will have various levels of support from cash grants to business support and mentoring. They are an excellent way to start networking and marketing your business in the locality. You will need to do this yourself. You can also get support for your Ltd Co and your CIC so double whammy.
What to do - do a Google search of business support or LEP followed by your geographical area. So for example I live in Northumberland so I typed in Business Support Northumberland and got the following results

Connect with your Active Partnership
As part of your onboarding, we will connect with your Active Partnership. Your Active Partnership’s role is to get more people active locally. They will have lots of smaller funds you can tap into and can be the gateway into the School Games Organisers and School Contacts. These are a great starting point. To find out who yours is simply google Active Partnerships or find them using this link. We would highly recommend getting them onside early and building relationships with the main contacts via Linked In.

Network Network and Network
One of the first things to do is network with your local community. Find out who are the local charities, and join all the local forums. Join the relevant Facebook Groups such as PE Coordinators. Go and speak to as many people as possible. Go and visit all your local community centres and pop into places like supermarkets to speak to their community champions. Depending upon the time of year and what is available, take part in community events such as summer fetes, and Christmas Fayres. Give your time for free, connect with local sports clubs, do some tasters, and go and offer free reading in schools. The opportunities are endless, the more you give the more you will receive. This is without a doubt the best way to find out what is happening locally and remember to wear your Active Future kit.
HAF - Head Office will undertake this for you for your first one.
You must deliver it to our exacting standards and attend all training events. The applications can be annual but in some cases also open and close for each round of funding. Your first one we will do everything for you.
Asda Community Fund - these do open and close so please check the dates.
They are quite small funds but great little opportunities.
What to do - click on the link and you will in most cases need to go into your local store. We can help with applications but you will need to collect the application form

Short Breaks
Short Breaks is a great bit of funding to provide HAF-like opportunities to children with disabilities. They do not have to be run in the holidays and some cases can be used to engage children in your sessions and weekend provision. The funding window sometimes remains open and sometimes opens and closes. In some cases, you will need to be running community sessions to apply.
What to do - do a Google search of Short Breaks followed by your area, this should give you your contact. You are welcome to have the initial meeting on your own or we can attend or run this meeting for you.
People’s Postcode Lottery
This funding is very geographically focused and you will need to see which trust can support your CIC. If you add your postcode to the Trust Finder you can see what you can apply for. Head Office will be more than happy to help you apply. Please note that opening and closing dates do apply.

This is a £20k fund to make a difference in your local community. Success rates are reasonably high (around 80%). The more you’re doing in your community the higher the likely success.
What to do, click on the link below. If you want to apply you can either do it yourself or HO can help. You will need to put in all your details and then we can discuss a possible project.

Sport England Funding
There are a few Sport England Funds and some drop in and out. At the time of writing the Movement Fund is available.

Police Commissioner Funding
This will be a tricky one to apply for if you are not already running community sessions and have no community presence. The funds open and close so you will need to keep an eye out or register with them. The funds are often about reducing crime in areas using movement and in particular with young people.
What to do - google PCC Funding in your area and you should get something like this.

We would highly recommend speaking to HO before applying for this one.
Active Travel Fund
The ATF is an initiative to try and get more families out of motorised transport and moving using walking, running or cycling. The fund is managed by different parts of the local government depending on the location. The funds do open and close so please check on them regularly.
What to do - Google Search Active Travel Fund followed by your locality. There should be some links here to find more information. If not, speak with your HAF Teams, ask at your LA or ask your Active Partnership. You will need HO Support on this one.

WrapAround Care
This is a huge opportunity to obtain funding to provide WrapAround Care. To deliver this you will need to be OFSTED Registered. We would highly recommend you are already working in a school and have community provision. You will require qualified staff and you will need HO support.
What to do - have a chat in your support group and we can help you through the process.
National Governing Body Funding
There may be pockets of funding in your locality from your Sporting NGB. For example I recently worked with someone else and we received £19k of funding from the RFU to get more girls into rugby. Speak to your FA or British Dodgeball or any other sport you may be delivering in schools for example as they may have some funding to increase the coverage of their sport. Quite often there is equipment funding available from the NGB. - remember shy bairns get nowt.
Final Points
There will be lots and lots of other local funds available and many will open and close. It is your responsibility to keep up to date with the necessary funds, we will update this page when new funds become available. We are more than happy to support your applications but it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to keep on top of them. If you need any help whatsoever in obtaining them we are here to help. We will attend meetings on your behalf or with you and we will support bid writing but you need to tell us what you want to apply for.
